Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
